He got the news last week from their mutual friend Richard Admiral.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Admiral grew up making art with Pratt, whom he said he met around 1970. First they were into music and comic books, then it was street art.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe were young knuckleheads running around and painting in the 3 yard,\u201d he said, referring to the subway line that terminates in Harlem.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">According to Admiral, when they got into trouble in the neighborhood, they\u2019d hide out in Pratt\u2019s Harlem home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cHe was a special cat,\u201d said Admiral. \u201cI loved him to death. Very interesting guy and very, very talented.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Pratt started practicing his craft on 153rd St. and Eighth Ave. with a group called the Yard Boys, according to the graffiti site <a href=\"https:\/\/www.at149st.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">At 149th Street<\/a>. His work went on to be featured in numerous galleries as well as the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/collections.mcny.org\/Collection\/[Page-in-Stan-153-and-ERO%E2%80%99s-black-book.]-2F34084GVWP.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Museum of the City of New York<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Admiral was told that Pratt will be flown back to New York to be buried next to his daughter, who died last month. He didn\u2019t know the details of her passing. Admiral got word of Pratt\u2019s death from mutual friend and fellow artist Aaron Garrett, who paints under the name TB1. Garrett, who lives in Astoria, Queens, said he heard of his pal\u2019s passing through Pratt\u2019s widow in California.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cStan was an octopus who was into a lot of good things and a lot of other things,\u201d Garrett laughed, citing Pratt\u2019s love for cars, bicycles, women and playing bass. Not wanting to give specifics, Garrett said Pratt had a near-death experience in the \u201980s that gave him a new lease on life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">&#8220;He said he met people on the other side and they told him he had to go back,\u201d Garrett said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Garrett said he talked to Pratt in the week\u2019s before his death and knew his friend of 40-plus years, whom he said had beaten cancer, was ailing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cHe said things like when he died, he wanted to be buried in New York,\u201d Garrett recalled. \u201cYou don\u2019t say things like that unless you know something is wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Stan\u2019s ex-wife, Claudia Pratt, said she married Pratt in 1994 and stayed in contact with him following their 2004 divorce after he moved to California and she opted to stay in New York. Claudia, 56, last spoke to her ex-husband by phone in the hospital in Aug. 15. She last saw the artist in July shortly before Stan\u2019s daughter\u2019s funeral.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cI\u2019m still in shock. I still don\u2019t believe it,\u201d she said. \u201cYou always think you have more time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Claudia said there\u2019s buzz about Sept. 28 \u201ccelebration of life\u201d for Stan 153, but that it\u2019s not set in stone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cA lot of people knew and loved him,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I didn\u2019t know who he was when I met him.
